How fruity are your Hot Cross Buns?
Try Melbourne's fruitiest hot cross buns (sometimes misspelled as hot crossed buns or hot x buns). Our hot cross buns are loaded with fruit and made with only the very best ingredients to a time-tested Ferguson Plarre recipe.
Our Hot Cross Buns were awarded the runners-up trophy in the 2011 National Hot Cross Bun competition against some of Australia's best bakers.
The fruit test
We're passionate about quality Hot Cross Buns, so last year we purchased 1/2 dozen buns from three leading Hot Cross Bun suppliers. We weighed them, pulled them apart, separated the fruit, weighed the fruit and rated them. The results were as follows:
- Brand # 1 Hot Cross Bun: 23% fruit
- Brand # 2 Hot Cross Bun: 15% fruit
- Brand # 3 Hot Cross Bun: 2% fruit
- Ferguson Plarre Hot Cross Bun: 58% fruit
Now admittedly we didn't pull apart 1000 buns so maybe the other bakers were just having a bad day or they forgot to add some fruit to the recipe. But one thing's for sure....our pastrycooks didn't! Please email us if you have any interesting stories about fruitless buns.
