Hot on the heels of receiving the Origin Gold Banksia Award in July, Ferguson Plarre has scooped the pool again, this time taking off the hotly contested Environment and Energy Management Award at the NAB Agribusiness Awards for Excellence held on October 29.
In a world where navigating the ‘carbon jungle' is often considered as "just too hard", Ferguson Plarre has been rewarded for successfully demonstrating that sound financial practice and strategies for protecting the planet, can work hand in hand in business.
This latest award further confirms the company's commitment to running a sustainable operation, to the benefit of business and the community.
Ferguson Plarre Bakehouses Co-Director, Steven Plarre, praised his staff and supply chain for their valuable contribution to the challenge of recovering and reusing resources at the company's ground-breaking Keilor Park (Melbourne) plant.
"This is proof of sustainable business growth policy in action," he said.
"By harnessing the waste heat from our refrigeration systems, redistributing heat recovered from freshly baked products, employing hybrid vehicle technologies and offsetting the remaining emissions via tree planting, we have reduced our carbon footprint by over 5,000 tonnes of CO² annually," Mr Plarre said.
"And our savings in electricity alone paid for our investment in the very first year."
He said that Ferguson Plarre would continue to develop its business within a sustainability framework, with the ultimate aim of building the most efficient, environmentally-friendly, people-friendly bakery possible.
