Our pies are made to a time-tested family recipe using only the best ingredients. The base is made using a delicious short-crust dough. For our filling we use hormone-free beef mince cooked in our delicious gravy. We then top it with a light fluffy pastry and bake it until golden.

I have been on the odd occasion eaten (take away food). I don't call Fergie's that, but struggle for a name. They are more than a bakery, offering more.

My first experience was 52 years ago (as long as my memory goes with liking food (excluding ice cream) I remember Nana having a rectangular slice, pastry on bottom, filled with shredded vegetables, then another pastry top I can only remember as having a baked parmesan type topping.

Back in those days it would not have been parmesan cheese, as us Skippies would have rejected it. Possibly it could only have been a cheese and poppy seeds. I would dearly love that slice again or if anyone knows its name. I am sure Ferg/Plarre would have it in their recipe collection.

When I was the breadwinner 34 years ago, my lovely wife would, when I needed cheering up, buy me a Fergie’s Pie. Do they put testosterone in those pies? 

I remember, before marriage, walking over the road at corner of Sydney Rd and Bell St, Coburg and ordering my lunch – a Fergie’s.
But I was attracted to their simple bread rolls, (a curried egg, a cheese and lettuce, etc.)

Wife (just girlfriend at the time), took me to Puckle Street Moonee Ponds in 1976 where Plarres was – close to the Mt. Alexander intersection. She said her family would only buy from them when a festive occasion was happening.

Well, they combined. What luck? My wife and I did the same – got lucky and married.

As to the beef pie, it has never tasted different - along with the cottage pies. I now love the cottage pie over everything.

The proportion of meat exceeds any competitor. I don't like other pies as they are all just pastry and no substance. Fergies tastes like meat only. - your pallete only seems to be holder of a weighty pie - the cottage pie.

You can't beat the price and (a secret) you can but in bulk and save.Ask them.
